National Espresso Day

“Everyone can be great, because everyone can serve.” MLK

The word espresso means “quick in time” in Italian. Before the advent of the espresso machine, espresso was simply a coffee expressly made for the person ordering it. It was also made with recently roasted and freshly ground beans. The cup was brewed shortly before serving. In the late 1800s, this practice was commonplace in cafés and restaurants. Enjoy one today!

About the photo: The best espressos I have every enjoyed have been sitting outside on Lygon Street in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. Years ago, when I was living in Sydney I sitting where these people were when I hear “Rob!” and a guy who was on my dorm floor during my freshman year of college sat down. Ironically, we both were hired at the same time by different companies in Fargo, North Dakota and were both subsequently sent to Australia for a few years by our respective employeers. While I was based in Sydney, Mitch was based in Melbourne. Two small town Midwestern kids (we were both in our 20s) from the having parallel mazing learning experiences and adventures Down Under.

ASWi Managed Services | Next Generation Firewalls

In today’s rapidly evolving cybersecurity landscape, traditional firewalls alone may not be enough to protect your network from advanced threats.

What are Next Generation Firewalls?
Next Generation Firewalls (NFGWs) provide enhanced security features that go beyond basic filtering, enabling more robust protection against modern attacks.

Benefits of Next Generation Firewalls:
1. Deep Pack Inspection
NGFWs inspect the entire packet, not just the header, allowing for more precise detection and blocking of malicious content embedded within files and applications.

2. Application Awareness
Unlike traditional firewalls, NGFWs can identify and control malicious applications at the application layer, even if the applications are encrypted or using non-standard ports. This ensures that only authorized applications are allowed to communicate on your network.

3. Integrated Intrusion Prevention Systems
NGFWs automatically identify and stop advanced threats like zero-day attacks, malware, and evasive techniques used by cybercriminals.

4. Advanced Thread Detection
NGFWs use sandboxing, machine learning, and AI-powered threat intelligence to detect and respond to unknown and emerging threats in real-time.

5. Unified Security Management
NGFWs consolidate multiple security functions, such as URL filtering, antivirus, and VPN, into a single platform, simplifying management and improving visibility across the network.

With the advanced features offered by NGFWs, you can significantly enhance your organization’s defenses against modern cyber threats.

Please let our Customer Success Manager Keith Wood know (keithw@ASWiUS.com, 717-581-1226) if you would like to learn more about ASWi’s Managed Services and to learn more about protecting your organization with a Next Generation Firewall.

Marketing 101 | Tips from Bri

Imperfection is Memorable

Painted walls can be cleaned pretty easily. A few squirts of “Spray and Wipe” and unsightly marks can be erased. Walls with exposed brick are a different matter. Blemishes seep into the brickwork’s pores and crevices, making them impossible to expunge.

When it comes to communications, a painted wall approach is often the default. Our presentations, websites and emails look uniform. Our writing is professional. But, as safe as this approach feels, it’s also bland and forgettable.

Nothing sticks.

Perversely, what feels safe is actually a massive risk. In this relentless world of AI and distributed content, painted walls don’t stand out. Exposed bricks, on the other hand, celebrate uniqueness and imperfection.

(Editor’s note 1: for example, the artistic “vandalism” below has turned into one of Austin’s biggest tourist attractions)

Like the varied textures and colors of brickwork, our communications can showcase our individual experiences, perspectives, and even our flaws. By varying the rhythm and style of our work, we give our audience something to grasp, something to distinguish us by.

These ‘imperfections’ in our communication – personal anecdotes, unconventional ideas, or distinctive writing styles – are what make us memorable.
In a world of information overload, being memorable is key. (Editor’s note 2: any resemblance in our Happenings newsletter to the ‘imperfections’ that Bri talks about above may or may not be intentional.)
