Be Humble Day

“Humility is the solid foundation of all virtues.” Confucius

Humility may be the most difficult of all the virtues to truly attain. There seems to be a paradox in that claiming to have humility may be an act of pride itself. Today is a great day to focus on being humble. No boast or bragging allowed. What is allowed is encouraging others and focusing on their achievements and giving family, friends and co-workers the props that they rightly deserve.

The story behind the picture:

Waaaay back in 1995, I had the privilege of chauffeuring Sir Edmund and Lady Hillary from the airport in Queenstown, New Zealand to an event at which Sir
Edmund was going to be the keynote speaker. While I was focused on my driving on the “other” side of the road in a rented minivan and trying to block out thoughts of what would happen if I had an accident while the man on the local $5 bill was in the vehicle, Dame Hillary asked me “Have you ever been to California? The people there are crazy!”

“Dame Hillary: We just came from a dinner where people paid $250 for the worst chicken dinner in my life. The chicken was so dry, you couldn’t even swallow it.”

Me: “No offense, Ma’am, but I’m guessing the reason they paid the $250 was for a chance to meet you and your husband, not for the chicken dinner.”

Dame Hillary: “Then their even dumber than I thought they were!”

Dad Jokes | Humility Edition

Humility is one of my best qualities. I’m probably the most humble person I know; I could talk about my humility for hours.

When I die, I would like the word ‘Humble’ to be etched on my 18 foot statue.

“I’m the humblest person you’ll ever meet but don’t take my word for it; my ten self-help books on humility say it all.”

Managed Services | Encryption on Mobile Devices

In today’s mobile-driven world, protecting sensitive data on mobile devices is more critical than ever.

Mobile Device Encryption Matters
• Protect Sensitive Data
Encryption prevents unauthorized access to sensitive data, even if devices are lost or stolen.

• Enhance Security
Encryption adds a vital layer of defense against cyber threats targeting mobile platforms.

• Ensure Compliance
Meeting encryption requirements aligns with DFARS, NIST SP 800 -171, and CMMC 2.0, safeguarding your contracts and reputation, whether you work with the Department of Defense or not.

Steps to Implement Encryption
• Use Strong Encryption Standards
Deploy encryption methods such as AES-256 to secure data on mobile devices.

• Enable Full-Disk Encryption
Protect all data stored on mobile devices, including files, emails, and apps.

• Implement Secure Communication Channels
Encrypt data in transit using VPNs or TLS protocols for safe access to remote networks .

• Regularly Scheduled Updates and Audit Reviews
Ensure devices are updated with the latest security patches and verify encryption settings regularly .

Leadership 101 | 2 Points to Ponder

by Bri Williams

The problem with Advice

You want to know what the problem is with advice? It’s being told what we should do. I was watching some TED talks recently. They were well presented, the ideas made sense, each had ‘takeaways’ to make it practical. But hearing what we should do to improve our lives is, frankly, exhausting. It adds to our mental load and our ‘to-do’ list.

I’m part of the problem, of course. I share advice in my talks, consulting and writing. So at times I, too, may inadvertently exhaust people. So, what’s the answer? What should we do?

I figure the only way to make this better is to make sure the advice we give is grounded in the following realities of human behavior:
• We are not theoretical beings.
• We don’t have the same levels of energy and drive on a Friday that we may have had on a Monday. Or 4pm compared to 8am.
• We get hangry.
• We feel slighted.
• We are cognitive misers with a lazy brain.
• We want less to do, not more.
• We want relief.

Which has led me to rethink my value proposition.

Mental Accounting

What is mental accounting? Our tendency to weight money differently according to where it’s come from and where it’s going. Examples of mental
accounting don’t get better than this:

The $50 he saved was a win for the “paying for my flight” mental account. But the money spent getting to the airport and feeding
himself? Completely different mental account!

Sometimes, when dealing with customers, it’s not that they don’t have the money to buy from you, it’s that they’re using the wrong mental account.
Your opportunity is to change that.
