World Give Day
“Happiness doesn’t result from what we get, but from what we give.” Ben Carson
Today, people around the world come together to support various causes that are close to their hearts. It’s a day dedicated to the simple yet powerful acts of
giving, whether it’s time, resources, or support. The significance of World Give Day lies in its ability to unite individuals from all walks of life in the act of giving.
It underscores the fact that everyone has something valuable to offer, no matter their situation. The day is marked by a collective effort to impact the lives of others positively through donations to charities, volunteering, or simply sharing a kind gesture.
Ways to celebrate World Give Day:
• Create something special (a card, cookies, a scarf) and give them to your family, friends, neighbors and/or others who are in less fortunate circumstances.
• Participate in a donation drive by volunteering and/or contributing.
• Volunteer at a local shelter, food bank, or any other nonprofit that tugs at your heartstrings.
• Commit random acts of kindness.

Workplace 101 | How to Read Your New Boss
By Cotter Cunningham
I just got a new boss. Every time I talk with him, he seems annoyed with me. I honestly can’t figure it out. He has already started hiring people from his previous job. He showers them with praise, so I know he can be nice.
What’s the best way for me to handle this?
We have all been there. New boss, who seems to not give you a chance, meanwhile favoring people from his/her past. This is tough. If it were me (and it’s not! This is your career!), I think you should give it a few weeks and then try and have an honest conversation.
This can go either really well, or it could easily result in your ultimately leaving the company. But life is short, and there are always other jobs that may interest you or appeal to you in some way. So in general, I think it’s OK to press the issue.
What to say:
I think in the least defensive way possible, you should say something like, “We have now been working together for a few months, and I know that reviews aren’t for a while, but I was hoping we could have a conversation about my performance.”
If he has concerns about your performance, a good manager will tell you. If you have been imagining the various slights you have perceived, I hope he will convince you that you are doing a fine/good/great job and all is well. I think it’s important to keep it about your performance. If you instead were to say, “I don’t think you like me. I have seen you talking to Betty, and you compliment her, but…” that feels like a road to nowhere good. Instantly, he may be defensive and
potentially accuse you of being jealous. Or not understanding how he and Betty have worked together a long time and yada, yada, yada. None of this is going to help you understand your situation, which, I believe, should be your goal.
If he says, “Why do you ask?”, just say that you read that it’s a good practice to have a check-in with a new boss after 90 days. Or something along those lines.
